Our monthly Economic Review is intended to provide background to recent developments in investment markets. The bulletin also gives an indication of how some key issues could impact in the future.
The UK economy grew strongly in November to move beyond its pre-COVID level, with increasing momentum recorded across all industry sectors prior to the arrival of the Omicron variant.
In our economic update this month we look at UK growth figures which overshot forecasts by a Reuters poll of economists. We then run through inflation data which continues to concern and highlight where most of the pressures have been. Finally we cover employment statistics and retail sales.
Our update this month includes the following headlines:
- Economy regains pre-pandemic size
- Inflation at 30-year high
- Markets
- Wages squeezed by rising inflation
- Retail sales fall sharply
