Economic Review – December 2021

Our monthly Economic Review is intended to provide background to recent developments in investment markets. The bulletin also gives an indication of how some key issues could impact in the future.

Official statistics show the UK headline rate of inflation now stands at a 10-year high, with surveys pointing to further upward pressure as firms continue to report rapidly-rising cost burdens.

In our economic update this month we look at the continuing rise of prices and the focus on the Bank of England and whether they will act to curb increasing costs. We run through the markets and how they have reacted to the recent new Covid variant. We end finally on positive news for Jobs and retail in the run up to Christmas.

Our update this month includes the following headlines:

  • Inflationary pressures mount
  • Rate rise speculation intensifies
  • Markets
  • Jobs market withstands furlough end
  • Retailers enjoy early Christmas lift
